iZotope Ozone 6 Advanced Mastering Software
-- Ozone 6 Advanced----
Ozone 6 is the latest version of Ozone, the immensely popular suite of audio mastering and processing software tools. New is the addition of a standalone version; this is a framework that allows running in any processing order the seven mixing plug-in tools that also run in VST, RTAS, and AU hosts.

The seven tools available in a single instance of Ozone 6 Standard are: Equalizer, Dynamics, Maximizer, Exciter, Imager, Post Equalizer and a separate window for Export/Dithering audio files. Ozone 6 Advanced adds the very useful Dynamic EQ module, the Insight plug-in and includes individual plug-in versions of the Equalizer, Dynamics, Dynamic EQ, Maximizer, Exciter, and Imager.

Both the Standard and Advanced versions give you the ability to choose among five EQ/filter shapes: Baxandall treble, Baxandall bass, proportional Q (like API equalizers), band shelf, and peak bell. You can toggle between analog and digital modes for minimum or linear-phase processing across four independent bands.

Ozone 6 has extensive metering and visual analysis tools displayed in a whole new GUI design that is easy on the eyes. To get you started, it comes with a good assortment of professionally designed presets you can modify, name and save for future projects.

The standalone version is great for just processing/mastering audio files but without relying on or learning a DAW host at all. Standalone Ozone 6 has: in/out fade and trimming, file export with automatic dither (selectable Mbit+), sample rate conversion, and also a third party plug-in support in up to all six slots!

Using Ozone 6 Advanced (ver 6.01) has been great--it is DSP intensive and, if need be, there are many tips to optimize performance for your computer such as viewing and adjusting buffer sizes in the Buffer Size Viewer dialog window. I liked the new arrangement in the GUI of commonly used features with less used features removed to reduce clutter. I also liked the processing modules' icons displayed at the GUI's bottom in their actual order in the signal chain. Ozone 6 is very visual: you can see exactly what is happening to your audio easily by clicking on each module icon as required.

I liked using the powerful Dynamic EQ module in Ozone 6 Advanced. It works like an EQ but with a compressor threshold control with the ability to compress or expand only in a designated band(s) of frequencies. I found it to work miracles for precise, tonal adjustments when repurposing old mixes that have serious tonal and mix issues. You can use dynamic equalization in Mid/Side and Left/Right processing modes and expand any or all EQ bands with the Inverse Mode.

I also had fun using the Imager section for widening stereo keyboard tracks to larger than life width and also narrowing overly wide sources that just would not blend in the mix.

iZotope Ozone 6 Standard sells for $249 and Ozone 6 Advanced is $999. iZotope does it again with another 'can't live and work without' tools for modern music and post production work.

Triple recommended!
