I worked on Lakeside's "Fantastic Voyage" album. This was at Larrabee Studios in West Hollywood, CA. I was one of three guys who were kept busy at three different studios by Solar's big stable of artists, all recording at the same time. When I heard Coolio's hit using a sample of that record, I chuckled. I remember a lot of the details about the making of "Fantastic Voyage." Otis Stokes and Steve Shockley were the ring leaders equally splitting up the duties of vocal and tracking production. What also stands out is recording synth bass (a Moog Source, overdubbed in the control room), guitars with Steve (the brightest Stratocaster I ever heard in my life) and playback at "fry level" for all the band. The respect the band showed me reflected a good religious upbringing.
