dbx 386 Dual Tube Mic Pre-Amp
by Barry Rudolph |
The dbx 386 is a dual-channel microphone pre-amp in a single-rack space and part of dbx's "Silver Series" line. The 386 uses two 12AU7 tubes for amplifying the mic's signal up to line level output and at the same time, dbx's proprietary Type IV analog-to-digital conversion system for digital output. Like the rest of the Silver Series, the 386 comes fully featured: there's +48volt phantom powering, phase invert, a 75Hz high pass filter and -20dB pad. There is also a high impedance 1/4-inch instrument input jack on the front panel and a 12-segment LED meter to monitor analog and digital levels.
The Type IV conversion system has switchable sample rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96kHz with variable bit depths from 16 to 24-bit. You may also select the best noise shaping and dithering modes for your digital productions. The unit outputs in both AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital formats. Safe to say that the 386 is made future-proof by having all of these features and options. The 386 sells for $570 MSRP and for much more about it, contact dbx Professional Products at 8760 South Sandy Parkway, Sandy, Utah 84070. Call them at 801-568-7660 or Web to: www.dbxpro.com |
