DigiTech Vocalist VR
by Barry Rudolph |
The Vocalist VR can add up to four different harmony notes to your single lead vocal input. DigiTech has been working on this technology for quite some time and their patented harmony algorithm is the most realistic yet.
With the VR you will need to set the following parameters before singing: choose chordal or scalic harmonies; the key and scale; designate if the new harmonies are above or below your melody; the mix or blend of all the voices; and any additional digital effects such as reverb you desire. The front panel walks you through all the steps to this process with six lighted voicing switches that provide visual indication of all harmonies generated. In Chordal mode, the VR follows chord progressions and all inversions and produces harmonies that fit over each chord. Scalic mode follows the singer's voice closely to produce harmonies based on a designated scale. You can use a MIDI controller (keyboard) to select key, scale type or chord and a footswitch will let you jump between two different keys if your song modulates. There is a Split mode where only notes in a selected range would be followed thus limiting the VR to follow only treble notes and not bass notes. There are nine digital reverbs available on each of the unit's 50 presets and the effects are available separately using the rear panel jacks. The unit uses 16-bit 44.1kHz A/D conversion and sells for $400 retail. Much more about the VR can be learned from DigiTech at 801-566-8800 or Web to: www.digitech.com |
