The D2424 is Fostex's entry into the fully professional hard disk recorder market. The D2424 has 24 hardware tracks and 32 virtual tracks making a possible total of 56. There is a time code package with generator and reader, optional 4.7Gb DVD-RAM backup drive, eight channel AES/EBU I/O and an extension slot for an Ethernet network card.
Editing features include: unlimited undo/redo, copy/paste between programs and 99 levels of undo for copy, cut, paste, move and erase functions. The direct locate function has up to 100 preset memory locations and the Mark Stop function stops the playback or recording at a designated locate point. Operating just like any tape deck, the auto EE mode sets record enabled tracks to toggle to input monitoring whilst in stop or record modes. You also get a footswitch to remotely punch in/out "hands free" and since the entire front panel removes for placement adjacent the console, you don't have to buy an optional remote controller. Fully ready to interface by way of full RS-422 and P2 protocols with any and all video editors or other time code locked equipment, the D2424 is sold with or without the internal hard drive.
