Johnson's J-Station
by Barry Rudolph |
The Johnson Amplification J-Station is a guitar and bass guitar amp modeller with some new features not found on other units. First of all, there is a S/PDIF digital output for direct connection to any digital recorder or workstation system. Besides full MIDI implementation, the J comes with Windows® computer-based editing/librarian software for even deeper programming of some non-accessible front panel parameters.
The front panel is divided into two sections: amp modeling and effects. There are 18 different guitar amp, bass amp, and acoustic simulator presets that use the seven gain and tone controls to allow you to individually adjust each to your needs. The effects section has: compression, pitch modulation, delays and reverbs. Each of these effects can be tweeked using any or all of the three separate controls. Like most boxes these days, you start with any of 30 factory presets and then modify. Once you are in love with your new sound treatment, save it to any of 30 user memory locations. If you plug in a J8 MIDI Foot-Controller/Expression pedal, you can control remotely things like preset selection, volume, wah-wah and other expression oriented effects. The J-Station costs $450 MSRP and is available from Johnson Amplification, a division of Harman Music Group. They are located at 8760 South Sandy Parkway, Utah 84070. Call them at: 801-566-8800. |
