Korg MS2000 Analog Modeling Synth
by Barry Rudolph |
The new MS2000 uses analog modeling to recreate the sound of Korg's famed MS series of synths that came out way back in 1978.
The MS2000 comes with a 44-note velocity keyboard or you can get the MS2000R rack mounted version. Both versions sport 35 dedicated front panel knobs for real-time sound design. The MS uses the same DSP analog modeling methods found in the Prophecy, Z1 and Electribe series. Each voice consists of two multi-wave oscillators and noise generator. You can wave sequence from 70 possible waves with the Mod Sequencer. You can link the two oscillators and external signals can be used as wave sources and then subjected to all the on-board filter and effect treatments.
Speaking of filters, there are 12 and 24 dB per octave low pass, bandpass and high pass filters each with resonance. You get dual ADSR envelope generators and two LFOs that have four different waveforms and MIDI synch. All patching is by way of a virtual patchbay that emulates the original Korg PS and MS synths. All of this is wonderful and then Korg throws in (because they can) a 16-band vocoder based on the VC-10. With 128 sounds, the MS2000 sells for $1,100 for the keyboard version and $800 for the rack/desktop model. More from Korg USA at 516-333-9100 or Web to: www.korg.com |
