NS/Stick Guitar/Bass from Stick Enterprises
by Barry Rudolph |
Co-designed by Ned Steinberger and Emmett Chapman, the NS/Stick is an eight string stereo guitar/bass built to allow for both standard bass and guitar techniques. This is the instrument that will open up to all guitar and bass players the world of two-handed tapping popularized by Chapman Stick players. The NS/Stick has a low action with precision fretwork and can be tuned in a variety of ways such as in fourths starting from a low B or just like a standard guitar but with two lower fourths added. There is a damper at the first fret that can be engaged to kill unwanted ringing strings when tapping. The bridge tuners have calipers for precision intonation on the 34-inch bolt-on bass guitar neck. You can adjust intonation and string height without removing the strings and the instrument is designed to play vertically or while sitting with a integral knee rest. Pickups come in two pairs: one for each set of four strings and are active EMG-FT stack double-coils. There is three-position switch and bass, treble and volume controls. Including custom hard case and stereo cord, the NS/Stick sells for $1,600 retail. Contact Stick Enterprises at 818-884-2001. Web to: www.stick.com |
