Peterson Strobe Tuners
by Barry Rudolph |
Models 490 and 590 Auto Strobes have "hands off" tuning that means you do not have to select a note range to read the spinning disc. The tuner will automatically adjust its scale to the note being played. Strobe tuners were and continue to be the most accurate electro-mechanical tuning devices. Furthermore, the spinning disc indicates intonation evolution showing that, once a note is played, the tendency of some musical instruments to wander sharp or flat from true pitch. The disc also indicates temperament making the strobe the piano tuner's choice of those who use them.
Both of the Peterson tuner models have seven preprogrammed temperaments as well as an equal tempered scale. You can also program your own custom temperaments for your own alternate tuning scales. Another very good feature is called Plus Two-Minus One. This allows for offsetting the tuner either up two octaves or down one octave so that high pitched instruments like a fife, piccolo or the high treble strings of the piano can be read more accurately on a larger scale of the disc. Conversely, low register instruments like a tubas or bass guitars can be shifted up two octaves for an easier read. There is also a simple way to transpose key signatures when tuning instruments keys other than C. For much more about these new tuners, contact Peterson Electro-Musical Products, Inc. 11601 S.
