Guitarmaker/designer H.G. Leach has designed two new guitars named after thumbpicker Thom Bresh, son of Merle Travis. The two guitars, the Bresh Legacy and the Bresh Spirit are modeled after the flattop Bigsby neck Martin guitar used by Travis. The Bresh Legacy is a replica of the original and comes standard with spruce top, rosewood back/sides, bird's eye maple neck, rosewood fretboard and bridge (ebony available), scroll pickguard and walnut burl veneered peghead, herringbone trim and vintage-style tuners.
The pearl inlaid fretboard has a Travis-style card deck pattern and the name Bresh is inlaid in the peghead as well. Each guitar has a special numbered label with Thom's signature and a caricature of Thom, drawn by Merle Travis. Your name can be inlaid on the 12th fret if you like. The Bresh Spirit is the same size but with a redwood top, Brazilian rosewood back/sides and abalone trim around the top, soundhole, peghead and fretboard.
The Bresh Mistress is based on the Les Paul body style but with its own lines, F-hole, mini arch top, magnetic pick-up, whammy bar, acoustic pick-up and MIDI pickup. The MIDI and acoustic pickups are by RMC Poly-Drive and allow the player to play live directly into Roland and Axis synths with accurate real-time tracking. The price is $3,800 (includes pick-up, finish and Bresh inlay). Order your guitar directly from H.G. Leach Guitars at: 530-477-2938.
