Along with celebrating the 30th anniversary of rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gibson has the Gary Rossington Signature SG model. Founding member Rossington mostly plays a Les Paul Standard but in the early days wrote many songs on an SG including "Free Bird." Gary stills plays an old '61 SG on "Freebird" when Skynyrd plays live. The new signature model combines the features Gary had on his SGs during the Sixties including a pair of humbuckers and a Maestro vibrato tailpiece.
The guitar is aged finished by Tom Murphy in Faded Cherry with aged nickel hardware and ABR-1/Maestro vibrato bridge/tailpiece. Total production will be limited to 250. The body and neck are made from solid mahogany with the neck fitted with 22 frets on a rosewood fingerboard. Inlays are vintage trapezoid (accurate in shape and color) and the binding is single-ply cream. The neck has a slim taper and a scale length/nut width of 24 3/4-inches and 1 11/16-inch respectively. The two pickups are a Burstbucker 1 in back and a Burstbucker 2 in front. Other good things are: CTS pots and bumblebee caps, two volume and two tone controls and three-way switch.
With Custom Shop case, the Gary Rossington Signature SG sells for $7,691 MSRP. For more information contact Gibson at www.gibson.com.
