The French Canadian company, Guillemot makes the Maxi Studio ISIS PCI sound card that allows for recording and playing eight simultaneous inputs and four outputs of 20-bit digital audio. ISIS or Interactive Sound Integration System runs under Windows 95 and with most of the PC-based audio/MIDI sequencer software suites such as Cakewalk, Steinberg or Emagic. This system allows you record and edit digital multichannel audio and MIDI. You can time stretch, have three EQ's inserted per track, real-time DSP and mixdown to a single stereo .wav file for CD mastering. You can record at 32, 44.1 or 48kHz. sample rates as well as sync to external SPDIF clocks.

The entire system costs $400 MSRP and comes ready to "plug and play" with a comprehensive software suite including: Logic Audio™ 3.6; Cool Edit Pro SE; ACID DJ; and demos of Cubase Score VST™, Rebirth™, Wavelab™ and Cakewalk's Pro Audio 8. The four layer PCB main board installs in your PC and has a built-in 64-voice GM/GS synthesizer and 48kHz sampler. There is 4 MB of RAM for holding the included samples supplied by Roland Corp. and memory is expandable up to 36 MB with a standard SIMM module.

The fun starts when you connect the external rack I/O unit with the supplied D-connector to the main board and install the included software and samples. The I/O unit has eight 1/4 inch analog line level inputs and four analog line outputs with both digital SPDIF and optical inputs and outputs. A convenient MIDI trio of connectors are also provided.
