The Techno Primer by Tony Verderosa

Techno Primer is an introduction to the state of the art of the Techno Music genre. Author Verderosa aka VFX divides his book into three sections: Part 1 is History--Key--Artist--Genres, Part 2 is all about Making Techno Music with Computers, and Part 3 is an artist interview section with dozen question/answer interviews with artists like Jamie Myerson, Misstress Barbara and The Machine Isle.
I liked the section called Definitions of Selected Electronic Music Styles where the many subgenres are defined with examples mostly recorded and produced by the author on the included CD. These groove snippets also show off many different popular music production instruments and software. Part 2 in the book goes into all the different ways to make music with computers from computer-based "DJ in a Box" like Acid or Mixman software programs to more hardware-based hard disk recording and full MIDI systems. There is complete coverage of the different file formats, software programs, synthesis and Verderosa contrasts the different ways your music is stored and the possibilities of the Internet.
With a complete glossary at the end, The Techno Primer sells for $19.95 and is available from Hal Leonard at 414-774-3630. Order this product by calling 800-637-2852 or visit www.musicdispatch.com
