C.F. Martin's SWC Nylon Guitar

D Gear Lust Web Site DGo To The Music Connection "New Toys" Directory

The SWC nylon string guitar is one of two new Limited Edition Certified Wood Sting Signature models from C.F. Martin. In collaboration with pop music star Sting, Martin and guitar maker Thomas S. Humphrey offers guitars that use more than 70% of their wood from the Rainforest Alliance's "Smart Wood" program. The SWC is a 12-fret nylon string acoustic guitar with an elevated fingerboard design and original classical body shape. The western cedar soundboard is supported by Humphrey's lattice bracing pattern.

A wide banded tortoise color rosette is backed with silver foil and bordered with black and ivory-like inner and outer edging. The back and sides are constructed with solid certified machiche with tonal properties between rosewood and mahogany. The neck is 1 7/8" wide at the nut and is solid cherry while the fretboard is made from a Mexican hardwood called katalox.

The second new alternative wood guitar is the Sting Limited Edition SWB acoustic bass with a jumbo ("J") body and full 34" scale. This four string model uses book matched Sitka spruce for its soundboard and cherry for its back, sides and neck. Both instruments are finished with golden "vintage toner" in the soundboard, a polished gloss lacquer body, polished headplate and stain neck. The Martin/Fishman Gold+ active pickup system is included. For more information, you can contact The Martin Guitar Company at 510 Sycamore Street, P.O. Box 329, Nazareth, PA 18064.
