The KSM44 is a dual diaphragm studio condenser microphone. This side-address microphone has three polar patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid and Figure of 8. The extended frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz is made possible by the two one-inch, gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragms that are only 2.5 micrometers thick and the Class A transformerless preamplifier. The self-noise is measured at 7dB (very low) but the microphone is designed to take very loud sounds.
There is a three-position, low frequency roll-off switch and an internal shock mount that works in conjunction with the supplied ShureLock elastic suspension shock mount. The 44, itself housed in a zinc die-cast shell, has a harden steel grille to protect the capsules from violence. Included accessories are: a locking aluminum carrying case, the aforementioned color-matched ShureLock mount, a swivel mount and a protective pouch.
The entire KSM44 system sells for $1,340 MSRP and for much more contact Shure Inc., at 222 Hartrey Avenue, Evanston, IL 60202. Call them at: 847-866-2200 or Web to: www.shure.com
