Glyph BlackBox Mobile Hard Drives BlackBox is a new line of small (about the size of my iPhone 4S) and lightweight mobile hard drives from Glyph Production Technologies. All my studio's Pro Tools drives have always been Glyph--I have nine Glyph drives I use for archiving, cloning system drives, and video storage. The new BlackBox drives come in two sizes: 500GB ($99 BB500) and 1TB ($149 BB10000) and they also come with a three-year warranty.

These are USB 3.0 bus-powered drives that make great traveling companions when you're on the go--working at a coffee shop or just moving large music files from studio to studio or exchanging song files with a co-writer. The 5400 RPM BlackBox drives are for archival and backup and not for streaming large numbers of audio or video files from DAW systems. Since they are bus-powered only, there no wall power supply to lose and they include a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed cable.

At speeds up to three times faster than USB 2.0, your transfers will be snappier than ever. If you're backing up your computer with Carbon Copy Cloner or Time Machine, transferring files for delivery to a client, or just need some additional storage, the BlackBox provides a great blend of performance, reliability, and mobility.
