The first single rack space converter for Lynx Technology, the Aurora 8 ($2,195 MSRP) and Aurora 16 ($3,295 MSRP) are standouts in the crowded 'forest' of 24-bit analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog converter products. The front panel controls configure all sample rates (up to 192kHz) and routing for eight or sixteen channels of A/D and D/A conversion. You can also access these controls by way of computer using the Lynx AES16 or infrared signals from laptop or handheld PCs.
Other features to consider are: Sync source selection from six different sources such as internal, LSlot, AES-A, AES-B and two externals; both analog and digital output source selection from analog or digital inputs or LSlot inputs; 16 channels of input and output metering selectable; both +4dBm or -10dBv analog levels; and Single/Dual Wire AES capability.
Lynx's Synchrolock jitter reduction is also included that provides jitter reduction up to 3000:1 and the LSlot expansion port accepts cards for Firewire, ADAT and other newer digital interface schemes. Lastly, both Auroras use industry-standard DB25 connectors on the rear panel wired in standard pinouts for quick and easy installation.
