Nugen Audio SigMod |
SigMod is a must-have utility plug-in for DAW users for setting up customized processes that in many plug-ins are either not available or poorly implemented or just don't work the way you'd like them. SigMod is now updated and greatly changed with a resizable GUI and the ability to start with a single module and then build out large chains by adding more modules as needed. SigMod enables very elaborate processing chains that I am glad to have!
Signal flow across SigMod's GUI is always from the left Input module towards the right Output module with stereo instances displayed as the left chain over the right. All the fun happens in between these two I/O modules.
There are bypass buttons for each section and clicking on a "+" button allows the insertion of any module from a drop-down list. Use the Settings button/view to reconfigure, add/remove and/or change any module's position by click/dragging.
The collection of 13 modules includes: Mid-Side with both encode and decode processing available; Mute/Solo for muting or soloing only part of a plug-in chain; Phase introduces polarity inversion; the Mono module combines the L/R or M/S signals down to mono; the Switch module toggles channels order--L/R to R/L or M/S to S/M; Delay adds a programmable amount of delay in milliseconds---up to 4 seconds or in samples, or lock it to session tempo BPM subdivisions.
I used Delay in samples to time-align two snare drum tracks to fire together. There is the Trim module for inserting +/- gain offsets; and Split allows for dividing or branching the signal chain in two streams each can have separate and different processor modules.
There are also good utility modules that keep your audio level in spec and/or can fix problems. The Protect module will mute the output signal when a specified level is exceeded. This can be a pop-up warning and then reset the output mute with a specified time period. The DC Offset module can detect a DC voltage riding on the audio, and the Crossover module opens up a lot processing ideas for me such as setting up my own multiband processor using the Tap module to "pick off" audio for parallel processing.
Lastly, the Insert Module is great for inserting VST2, VST3 or AU processor plug-ins into a SigMod chain. I use Pro Tools and there are many good plug-ins that are not AAX! This wraps them to become useable in a session as AAX Native. That along is worth buying SigMod!
Nugen Audio SigMod is pretty valuable for extending the capability of your DAW by adding simple processing points and controls. I'm glad Nugen keeps this plug-in updated with these modern changes. I can highly recommend it to all. It sells for $49 MSRP.
