The OWC® Accelsior 8M2 PCIe card is a super fast SSD drive for both 2019 Mac Pros, Windows or Linux computers, and PCIe expansion systems. The full-length card utilizes the total bandwidth of the latest PCIe technology to provide ultra-reliable speeds up to 26,000MB/s. An Accelsior 8M2 has eight NVMe M.2 SSD slots that can run at their full x4 lanes of data throughput; you can have up to 64TB of total storage.
Designed for large format post-production editing, real-time visual-reality, AI, and huge dataset I/O intensive applications, the Accelsior 8M2 comes with OWC's SoftRaid software for managing it as a RAID array.
We immediately installed the 4TB version of the 8M2 in a 2019 Mac Pro computer and started testing its speed. It comes pre-formatted as a RAID 0 array with (actually) 3.84 TB of storage; it was about 20 times as fast as our spinning 7,200 rpm archive drive.
To copy 10.8 GB from an internal SSD only took 6 seconds! Loading a 170 track Logic Pro Session took 20 seconds--a session that normally takes about 2 1/2 minutes to load! A session with 25GB of virtual instrument samples in Kontakt loaded five times faster. The OWC Accelsior 8M2 PCIe card runs cool but has a fan you can connect if you need--we did not.
This is beyond a different level for us! I think for super-size sessions in a DAW, this is a no brainer piece of kit. I'm always loading lots of different Pro Tools sessions looking for certain details to use in other sessions--or just reminding myself what that session was about. The load and re-load times can get tedious until Avid figures out a way to have two Pro Tools sessions running simultaneously!
This is an awesome product that no professional should be without. Along with a fast computer, you could 'rock' any gigantic audio or video editing project without slow down or worries, bring them on!
The OWC Accelsior 8M2 is expandable and you can buy the bare Accelsior card and plug in eight M.2 SSD Drives. Ours came with eight, 480GB NVME M.2 SSD drives for at total of 3.84TB. You can get started with just the 0TB Accelsior for $799. Prices range: 2TB at $1,299, (as tested) the 4TB is $1,699, 8TB $2,479, 16TB $4,299, 32TB $7,999, and 64TB at $12,999.
