The Great Gramma (Gig and Recording, Amp and Monitor, Modulation Attenuator) is a larger GRAMMA--an acoustic isolation platform for larger, heftier speakers and instrument amplifiers.
Both the original Gramma and Great Gramma solve a problem common to both speaker cabs and combo amps in live and studio use--when set directly on the floor, they couple a lot sonic energy into the floor causing strange tonalities, resonances and/or "hot" notes.
To use an engineering word, by acoustically "decoupling" the speaker cab or amp from the stage or floor, you effectively clean up the sound. With every note played, the guitar, bass or keyboard, the speaker cabinet vibrates and so does the stage, effectively muddying the sound of the cabinet. The stage then vibrates the mic stands and microphones, creating possible feedback. Throw down a Gramma or Great Gramma, put your rig on top and you'll notice immediately that you'll again sound like your usual self but with an increase clarity. The Great Gramma provides the same isolation specifications as the original Gramma but with a larger footprint for bigger and louder speakers.
The Great is 30 percent larger offering an isolation platform that is 30-inches long by 19-inches wide by two-inches high and exceeds the 300lb. max weight limit of the original. The new system comes complete with a carrying handle, road-ready carpet, and Studiofoam Wedges and Phatfoam underneath.
For both live and studio applications, the Great Gramma sells for $119 MSRP. More at www.auralex.com or call 1.800.95WEDGE.
