A kind of a hybrid, the Gibson ES-339 is a traditional semi-hollow body guitar the size of a Les Paul. So imagine the shape, singing sustain, resonant tone and all the nuances of the classic ES-335 first produced in 1958 but in the compact size of a Paul. The ES-339 is made in the Gibson Custom Shop in Memphis, TN. where the craftsmen managed to shave several inches off the traditional semi-hollow maple body design but still keeping a classy and natural look.
The ES-339 includes a pair of '57 classic humbuckers, tulip-head tuners, one-piece mahogany neck, nickel hardware, ABR-1 bridge, stop tailpiece, dot rosewood fingerboard inlays, and lacquer finish which make the guitars look like they came right out a 1958 time'capsule. The output jack is conveniently mounted on the side of the guitar and Gibson's new Memphis Tone Circuit preserves the guitar's high frequencies independent of the volume control's setting.
The ES-339 is available in two neck sizes: a 30/60 neck has the slim and wide feel of an early '60s Gibson, with an extra .030-inches of depth, while the heftier '59 neck profile is for guitarists who prefer a chunkier neck but still enjoy fast, smooth playing action.
The ES-339 comes with a hard shell case and sells for $2,821 MSRP. Right now there are three vintage-style finishes: Antique Red, Antique Vintage Sunburst, and Light Caramel Burst.
