West Coast bluesman Kenny Sultan is honored with the release of a modern version of the most coveted Martin guitar in Kenny's collection, the 1936 vintage 000-18. A kind of "old school" instrument with a few modern updates, the 000-18 Kenny Sultan Sunburst Custom Edition starts with a two-piece back and sides made of rare, fiddleback mahogany. The top is done in Adirondack spruce with scalloped, 1/4-inch thick spruce bracing. The neck is carved from mahogany, has a scale length of 24.9-inches with 20 total frets, and a two-way adjustable truss rod.
The rich and dark Kenny Sultan Sunburst finish contrasts nicely with the rosette featuring a single ring of herringbone pearl inlays sandwiched between black and white line inlays. The tapered headstock has a headplate of polished ebony and sits atop a modified V-neck that measures 1 3/4-inch at the nut. Vintage features are an old-style tortoise pickguard, bone nut and compensated bone saddle, and plain black ebony bridge pins. You also get Waverly nickel open-gear tuners with butterbean knobs.
Complete with Geib-style hardshell case, the 000-18 Kenny Sultan Custom Edition guitar has an interior label signed by Sultan and is numbered without total. Lefty versions are the same price and factory-installed electronics are an extra-cost option. Order this gem now, it sells for $4,899 MSRP. Much more at: www.martinguitars.com
