Written by Carl Verheyen and Dave Hunter, both the Interactive Gibson Bible and Interactive Fender Bible are excellent overviews of classic and modern examples of Gibson guitars and Fender amps and guitars. Told from a player's perspective, these books and the included wonderfully produced 70-minute DVD videos get to the heart and soul of these great musical instruments--the history, the story, and the reasons why they continued to be coveted by all serious musicians.
The books have two main sections: Models listed A to Z and the much longer, Models listed by year. When researching a certain guitar or amp, I found keeping my place in one section while consulting the other worked well. I also liked that the main innovations or changes from year-to-year are well noted instead of including arcane information most people don't care about.
The included and entertaining DVDs work as a reward and break from reading. Many vintage examples of guitars and amps are shown and played. I found it an excellent lesson for learning the exact differences in all these great instruments. The authors are both guitar players with Verheyen especially adept at many musical playing styles that clearly demonstrates why artists in every musical genre use these guitars and amps.
For know-it-alls to beginners, these books are in loving 'homage' to both Fender and Gibson--a must have book. They each sell for $27.95 and are from Jawbone Press. Check: www.jawbonepress.com
