The POD® HD is a desktop multi-effect unit that takes the POD concept to the moon and beyond. This new POD features HD Amp modeling technology and 100 effect stacks taken from Line 6's M Series products, the M5, M9 and M13. (All the amp models offered in earlier PODs have been re-modeled for HD). Using the HD is as simple or as deep as you like via the Advanced Guide & Model Gallery--you can customize it's "personality" and operational character to exactly your wishes.
POD HD features 22 brand new Line 6 HD amp models including: Fender® Twin Reverb®, HiWatt® Custom 100, Supro® S6616, Gibson® EH-185, Divided by 13 JRT 9/15, Dr. Z® Route 66, Vox® AC-30 (Top Boost), Marshall® JTM-45 MkII, Park 75, Mesa/Boogie® Dual Rectifier®, ENGL® Fireball 100 and more.
I liked the Signal Flow View where an entire signal chain (made up of eleven slots) is shown with the ability to change the specific effect in each slot and its position within the chain. The effects modeled are: dynamics, distortion, modulation, filter, pitch, EQ, delay, reverb, volume/panning, and wah. These effects can be inserted in front or after of your choice of 33 different amp and pre-amp models. The new firmware ver 1.3 update adds six more--three fenders, two British models, and a Line 6 hybrid plus five more amp parameters. Each of the effects is malleable with some modifications difficult to do in the real world of hardware such as changing the coil in the wah from the Italian Fassel type to another.
Not only are the amps selectable, you can set up dual amps and also the speaker cab and the kind of mic and whether it is on or off axis etc. This depth of adjustability is new for pedal--it was previously only available in computer-based plug-ins. I like that POD HD keeps the tradition of earlier PODs alive with a set of guitar amp knobs ready to grab at any time to dial in tone.
POD HD has a studio-ready I/O with a 1/4-inch guitar input, stereo 1/4-inch balanced outs, and XLR mic input. Then there is also a USB 2.0 jack for downloading updates and free software via Line 6 Monkey (the POD HD Edit software lets you download free tones from www.customtone.com), S/PDIF out, 1/4-inch headphone jack, and an FBV jack for connection to a Line 6 foot controller. There is so much more about the POD HD, you should go to line6.com/podhd/desktop/. It sells for $399 MAP.
