The Logitech Squeezebox is a full-featured Internet (or any network) music player radio that connects using either an Ethernet cable or a WIFI connection. MOG is Logitech's new partner and is an ad-free subscription service that allows access to over 13 million songs. Subscriptions start at $5 a month and you can get a free 14-day trial at www.mog.com/.
Squeezebox (Prices start at $159 MSRP) is a compact unit that fits anywhere--it's currently on my bookshelf and, when music is off, an auto-dimming digital alarm clock appears that never requires resetting--even after network and/or AC power outages. Squeezebox works with most subscription services such as Pandora®, Spotify®, Napster®, SiriusXM and Last.fm and is available in a variety of models, colors and different prices.
I found setup and using the Logitech Squeezebox Radio I received very easy. After just a few user configuration/preference choices using its cool navigation system and built-in, auto dimming 2.4-inch color screen, I was ready to start enjoying music--its been on nearly 24/7 since I got it!
It has excellent sound quality--remarkable considering the radio's diminutive size and small internal speaker. Squeezebox is ready to play .MP3, .FLAC, .WMA, .WMA Lossless, .AAC Apple Lossless, .WAV, and .AIFF audio file formats and supports all streaming rates.
Speaking of sound quality and because of today's faster network speeds and capacities, MOG's huge (and growing) library of music is encoded to stream at 320kBps--the highest MP3 rate possible.
By being a MOG subscriber and using Squeezebox (or optionally your computer on the same network), you can search for your favorite songs and artists, create personal playlists, browse featured playlists--i.e. further define or program your exact listening preferences in many ways. Personally, I liked finding obscure remixes of records I recorded or mixed years ago plus checking out the editors' music picks. They are provided right on the radio's screen!
